Beware, rip-off!

Fraudulent website hoteladsense.com

Enquiries in the AdSense forum show that these scammers operate with a high level of criminal energy and that up to five-figure sums have been stolen in this way.

This is how the hotel review scam allegedly run on behalf of AdSense works

I now have more detailed information that I would like to share with you. One of our readers has sent me a detailed report of his experience with this platform. And it shows just how sophisticated and perfidious this scam is.

Here is how the scam works

1. the bait

You are approached via social media, especially Telegram, and convinced of a supposedly lucrative extra income by writing hotel reviews.

2. the test run

To build trust, you are first given a small trial bonus to submit your first reviews. The first payouts even give the impression that this is a serious business.

3. the trap

You are quickly urged to transfer higher and higher amounts to the platform in order to take part in more lucrative 'commercial promotions'. These promise significantly higher commissions, but also require higher investments.

4. social engineering

In an internal chat, newcomers are motivated and lured by experienced members (who may also be part of the scam) to invest more and more money.

The main features of the scam

False promises

Exaggerated promises of profits and a seemingly risk-free business model are used to lure victims.

Pressure building

Constant messages and social recognition are used to pressure victims into making quick decisions.

Complicated payment processing

The exclusive use of Revolut and transfers to anonymous agents make it difficult to trace the money.

Social manipulation

Chat is used to create a sense of community and to pit victims against each other.

What can we learn from this?

The scammers are professional, so a healthy dose of suspicion is in order.

  • Never pay in advance for services that have not yet been provided.
  • Be sceptical about offers that sound too good to be true.
  • Do your research before committing to a platform.
  • Trust your gut feeling.

If you are affected by this, I would definitely call the police!
